Elizabeth
Browne -
First Grade
Teacher

My name is
Elizabeth
Browne,
and I am the
First Grade
teacher at
Corpus
Christi
School. I am
a life-long
member of
Corpus
Christi
Parish, and
I am a
graduate of
the School.
I have been
a teacher
for 37
years; 30 of
them at
Corpus
Christi
School.
I chose to
become a
teacher
because as a
student at
Corpus
Christi I
was given
the most
wonderful
education,
and because
of it I
became a
life-long
learner. I
was inspired
by my
teachers,
the
Dominican
Sisters of
Sinsinawa,
Wisconsin. I
hope to give
to my
students the
kind of
education I
received
from those
master
teachers,
and instill
in them
enthusiasm
for learning
to last a
lifetime.
I love
teaching
First Grade
because the
children are
emerging
readers and
writers, and
they are
filled with
the wonder
of all the
possibilities
that awaits
them as
readers and
authors.
My Class and
I read about
one-hundred
books
together
from all
genres. The
children and
their
parents were
very excited
about our
school wide
Read 100
Challenge.
Next year we
will attempt
to read
150 books in
our class!
The project
that best
exemplifies
my teaching
style was
the project
we worked on
together for
our Parish
and School’s
centennial:
One
Hundred
Places on
Morningside
Heights.
The children
and I went
around our
neighborhood
and
photographed
100 places,
bound them
into a
binder, and
then on
subsequent
days
incorporated
the project
into our
Reading,
Writing,
Math, Music
and Art
classes. The
children
were very
excited
about the
project, and
enjoyed
rereading
the binder.
My
commitment
to Corpus
Christi
school is to
be the best
teacher I
can possibly
be for as
long as God
allows me.
Our school
tries to
teach each
child just
as Jesus did
with
compassion,
love and
respect.
Religion is
infused
constantly
throughout
the school
day in
everything
we do, not
just during
Religion
classes.
