Flordeliza Anisco – Second Grade Teacher

I am a teacher. I chose to be a teacher because it has been my desire to teach school children especially the primary grades. I am currently teaching second grade. Seeing the change in some students in my class from being adamant in doing school work at the beginning of the school year to being active, confident, and inspired academically speaking, is what makes me very accomplished and happy as a teacher.

This school year, I read with my students many fiction and nonfiction books in the second grade level. The students were very excited about the Read 101 Challenge. The parents were very supportive and cooperative in encouraging their children read books of varied genre at home. Roughly, the Second Grade students have read more than 100 books as evidenced by the survey results on the books they read at home. For next school year, I plan to start this program as early as possible so parents can provide reading books for their children at home. I will guide the students in school in choosing fiction and nonfiction books of their interest from local magazines that publish award-winning books in the market. Hopefully, we can surpass the number of books read by students last year.

My students worked on many projects especially during the science fair with assistance from their parents. As a teacher of Corpus Christi School, I am committed to do my best in realizing the school objectives as a Catholic School. Being in a religious school, it is my duty to instill in my students the Christian values that the school promotes in the parish community. The core of our curriculum is religion and it is integrated in all our lessons. The Christian values are emphasized in our student not only during religion classes but in their daily interactions with their classmates and teachers.

If I were a parent searching for school for my own child, I would readily choose a Catholic school. I would also look for a teacher for my child who is God-fearing, hardworking, patient, and one who displays love and care for children.
