Jenny Rodriguez- 6th Grade teacher

My name is Jenny Rodriguez. I am not only a teacher  here at Corpus Christi but also a graduate. I attended this school from grades 1-8. I had many wonderful teachers. As a child I always loved helping the teacher and the students in whatever way I could.

Becoming a teacher was always in the back of my mind but it was not until I was in fifth grade that I was finally convinced .

I had a new teacher that year. Even though she only stayed in the school for that school year, she had an incredible impact in my life. Ms. Lyon was strict but fair. She was very creative and fun. She would speak to the class in German, which we thought was cool. She was caring, nurturing and very supportive. Everything I felt as a child because of her, I want my students
to feel.

I want my students to all feel special. I want to celebrate their talents and encourage them to do their best. I don't want them to compete with each other but with themselves. If you believe it, you can achieve it was my motto last year with the kids. I want the children to feel comfortable in my classroom. I begin and end my day with a hug. That I got from another great teacher, Sister Mary.

I try to include many projects in all the subjects. I do not believe that children are graded only on test. The projects give them a chance to shine a different
way. They get to show other talents they might possess. They write their own plays and act them out. They are also acts to draw or create something pertaining to the material that's been covered in class. Not only do they find it fun but so do I.

I try to make learning fun but at the same time, disciple is something I stress in class. I let the children know from day one what I expect from them. I consider homework to be just as important as class work. All of the subjects are essential and I try to incorporate religion in one way or another into all
of the subjects.

Why am I a teacher? I love to see the spark in a child's eye when they finally get something that they had been struggling with. I want to have a positive
influence in their lives the way Ms. Lyon had on me. In my classroom, we are a family. We encourage each other to do our best. I love children. I want the children to feel safe and confident. This helps them to excel. If you feel like a winner, you'll be a winner.
